The serial number is the first giveaway, the laque de chine without having any lacquer is the second giveaway. However your lighter doesn't have any lacquer on it, which is another dead giveaway that it's fake. Real Dupont lighters have high quality Chinese Lacquer when lacquer is present. See an addition comment below that I could not post in the Q/A section for some reason. We including detailed images when the auction was listed so bidders can know what they are buying. Genuine early Dupont lighters sell for $200.00 or more. This lighter does not seem to be "original" but a collectible anyway. No wear at all to this lighter, it is in original jewel box (see pictures) wrapped still in plastic, and also in original cardboard box the jewel box came in! This lighter has a nice heavy weighted feel to it or perhaps a heavier gold plating? I don't know. Just needs lighter fluid but that is up to the new owner. To our knowledge, this lighter has never been used. This auction is for a really gorgeous ST Dupont lighter.
